About the author: Ann Marie Miller

A former Broadway singer-dancer-actress, Ann Marie Miller uses her creative talents and communication skills to design and lead innovative fitness programs. With over 20 years of experience as a fitness professional, she holds an MA from Columbia University in Applied Physiology. She is also certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (Health Fitness Instructor) and has presented workshops for fitness professionals throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia. She was a Reebok University Master Trainer for over 10 years presenting workshops in Step Reebok, Slide Reebok, Cycle Reebok, Walk Reebok and Reebok Core Training. Her extensive background in fitness, strength training and program design are reflected in creative, innovative training programs designed to achieve results. She has been featured in major publications such as Glamour, Self, Good Housekeeping, Women’s Day, New York Newsday and she has appeared on CNN, WNBC, WCBS, TV Food Network and FOX-TV.

Ann Marie Miller is an 11-time United States National Masters’ Champion, an 18-time US Masters’ National Medalist, a Category 1 racer who “discovered” cycling after a variety of endurance activities, including running and duathlons. Ann Marie started bike racing as a member of the Century Road Club Association cycling club and credits the CRCA coaching program with launching her competitive cycling career. She has also competed in numerous running events from 5K’s to marathons, and she completed the London Marathon, where she qualified for the Boston Marathon.

A USA Cycling Level 3 licensed coach, she coaches individual riders, and is a coach for the Century Road Club Association. Currently, she serves as the bike fit specialist and resident cycling coach at SBR Multisports. She was also a leader for 3 years for the New York Cycle Club’s Special Interest Group, a twelve week training program to teach group riding and bike handling skills, as well as build endurance to complete a century ride of 100 miles as the final session. She also served as a cycling and multisport coach and the Director of Corporate Wellness Programs at Cadence Cycling and Multisport.

Known for using her creativity to develop innovative group exercise programs, she combined her experience in dance and fitness when she helped develop the New York City Ballet Workout with former principle dancers from New York City Ballet. As the Training and Development Manager at Town Sports International, she was responsible for setting up the training curriculum for new fitness trainers, and was in charge of the Continuing Education Calendar with over 100 events annually for Washington, Philadelphia, Boston and New York Sports Clubs.

In the corporate fitness setting, as a Group Fitness Director for Plus One Fitness, she developed Group Fitness Schedules and introduced many new programs and special event classes. She was selected to be the Group Fitness Director for the opening of Plus One’s flagship “green” fitness center, the Club at the Hearst Corporation, and also developed member incentive programs to provide motivation and improve exercise adherence. The Triathlon Program that she created attracted the highest participation of any of the site’s incentive programs. As a result of her dedication to building the instructor team, she was named Regional Group Fitness Audition Coordinator. She was asked to present lectures for corporation such as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley on fitness related topics.

She enjoys working with personal training and coaching clients of all kinds, and believes strongly in designing programs that are specific to the individuals’ goals, fitness level and health concerns. After suffering a near life-ending injury in 2005, with a broken C-1 vertebrae and skull fracture, she maintained a positive attitude, returned to training and is thrilled to be able to share the benefits of exercise and fitness with others.

Ann Marie exemplifies her training philosophy: specific training for specific results. With her comprehensive fitness background, she designs progressive training programs for endurance events and general fitness. She enjoys tennis, skiing and hiking and cycling vacation.
