Welcome to this month’s edition of “Social Media for Fitness Professionals”! Each month, I bring you three of the latest developments in the world of online social media, explain what each new development means for you as a fitness professional, and tell you how to take advantage of these trends to grow your business and communicate with your clients.

Here are the top 3 social media tips for May 2012:

#1: Monetize your Twitter Account with Chirpify

If you’ve been following the advice in this column, you may have found yourself getting more and more followers on Twitter.

So here’s a tip: Chirpify lets you link Twitter and PayPal, then sell things through Twitter…like e-books, photos, or even audio uploads!

Have you designed a quick new workout or recorded an audio presentation of pure gold content for your fitness audience? Put it up at Chirpify and monetize your Twitter followers!

#2: Start Using Pinterest

Pinterest is now the third most popular social media site. I know it can be tough to even know where to start when it comes to figuring out how to enhance your business with Pinterest, so I have an effective 1-2 combo for you:

  1. Make, take or create really compelling graphics, including photos of your gym, infographics, charts, photos of inspirational bodies or clients.
  2. Post them on your Pinterest page and when people click them, make sure that they bring people back to the blog or homepage of your business or your gym.

#3: Add a Google+ Share Button to your Blog or Website

Adding a Google+ Share button to your blog or website is a great way to make sharing your content very easy for your audience. Google has even given you code you can copy to set it up.

I’ve talked about Google+ before on this column, and it’s not going away anytime soon, so I highly recommend you add a Share button to your blog.
