What is a stitch?
A stitch is generally a pain that occurs in the left side just above the pelvis. It is called splenic flexor syndrome. The splenic curve is the sharp curve of your large intestines near the splein. If there is a build up of gas or pressure, it causes a sharp pain that people call a "stitch." A stitch on your right side comes from the hypatic side, or your liver, but tends to happen less often. Sometimes a stitch will occur when you have not given yourself adequate time after eating hard to digest foods or even too much fluid, especially fluid that is carbonated.
