My client described to me the sensation of stiffness in the inside of his left elbow after doing bench presses and bicep or hammer curls. The inside of the elbow becomes sore and the elbow locks. From what he tells me, the pain is not sharp, but he must manually stretch his left arm by using his right arm. Is this due to his right arm being stronger than his left? Should he see a doctor?
“Is this due to his right arm being stronger than his left?” Not likely.
“Should he see a doctor?” Definitely!
When you are working with clients that experience locking of joints, you must recognize that something is wrong. Once you’ve made that distinction, always play it safe and refer to a medical professional. An orthopedic surgeon would be very qualified to evaluate and diagnose bone and joint related issues. Continuing to exercise with joint systems that do not function properly can cause further problems and initiate a cumulative cycle of injury.
