How does one condition and prepare to study Krav Maga?
The best Krav Maga out there is taught by Moni Aizik, and his system is called Commando Krav Maga. Moni was a Special Forces soldier in the Israeli army, and he continues to train the most elite units in Israel on a monthly basis.
You can find out about his seminars by going to http://CommandoKravMaga.com
The courses and seminars are VERY physical. You can not make it through if you are in poor physical and/or mental condition. I suggest training four to six days a week with various methods of training as well as various levels of intensity.
Not every single workout should be intense, but the regular training will help improve your overall work capacity tremendously.
I suggest a lot of calisthenics mixed in with various levels of cardio, such as jumping rope, sprints or sprinting on the stationary bike. Also, outdoor training is phenomenal for preparing you for the rigors of a Commando Krav Maga seminar or course.
Here's a sample idea:
Find a playground that has monkey bars and park benches. Make sure you have space for running and jumping nearby. Perform various circuits including the following movements:
- Pull Ups (recline pull ups, if necessary)
- Hand walking on monkey bars
- Bodyweight squats
- Bodyweight push ups
- Sprints or agility runs through cones
- Jumps on/off park benches
- Walking lunges
- Hanging leg raises or inverted sit ups from monkey bars
- Bear crawls
As you can see, the above workout is for developing overall conditioning and endurance. In addition, it will also develop mental toughness. Commando Krav Maga is the real deal, and it requires you to be very ready mentally and physically.
Still, you should continue to work on regular strength work with free weights and have days of less intense training. This will help avoid burn out and injury.
Good luck to you!
