Research Corner - Q&A Effects of Sex Between Training Sessions by Chuck Wolf | Date Released : 15 Aug 2006 0 comments Print Close Question: Will sex between training sessions affect performance if I am training for an event? Answer: Unlike what Mickey said to Rocky, “Women weaken legs,” sex during training will not affect performance. However, there are considerations that come into play. Your question is not specific to many factors as to when sex is engaged during the training program. To cover as many bases as possible, these general points can be made: Sex during training will not affect performance as long as ample rest is obtained during the overall training program. It is not usually recommended to have sex immediately prior to engaging in training or a competitive event. Multiple sexual encounters may interfere with the athlete’s rest and recovery rhythms. Of course, other variables can enter into the equation such as number of encounters, partners and many unforeseen issues. Generally speaking, under “normal” conditions, sex will not interfere with training or competitive performance if proper nutrition, rest and training dosage are applied.
