I'm 5 months pregnant right now and running my own personal training studio. Would you have knowledge to share regarding a leave of absence for a small studio-based personal training business? How do they recommend a new mom/personal trainer juggle the responsibilities of both jobs? I'm trying to weigh my options right now and don't really want to enter into an official partnership with someone. At the same time, I also have bills to pay and wouldn't mind arranging with a trustworthy trainer to take on my clients during my absence. I rent my studio space and average about 20 or so sessions/week. Thanks for all your help!
Forget about juggling work and baby in the early months and concentrate on the baby (and on yourself). Those early weeks/months are important for the bond that is formed, and for the establishment of the breastfeeding relationship and just being together should take precedence over everything else. It's also often a real surprise to new Mums that they feel so intensely about their new baby and hate going back to work (even if only part time). I'm not sure what you should do about your studio but maybe look for a trainer who is a visitor from overseas, or maybe another pregnant trainer whose pregnancy is less well advanced - then you can think about job sharing further down the track.
I'm sure there'll be lots of other ideas, but mine are definitely in favor of giving those early months over to mothering!
