Welcome to this month’s edition of “Social Media for Fitness Professionals”! Each month, I bring you three of the latest developments in the world of online social media, explain what each new development means for you as a fitness professional, and tell you how to take advantage of these trends to grow your business and communicate with your clients.
Here are the top 3 social media announcements for October 2012:
#1: Twitter Changes It’s Header Profiles
You can now upload an all-new header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Android or twitter.com, and the same image will appear whenever anyone views your profile on the web or on any of these apps. You simply upload your header photo (which appears above your Tweets).
If you use Twitter like I do (click here to see an example) to send out tweets about fitness and nutrition studies and to interact with others about their exercise or diet questions, then people are going to be viewing your profile – and it should stand out compared to the other personal trainers’ Twitter profiles!
#2: Wavespot Turns Your WiFi into Social Networking
Does your gym or personal trainer studio offer free WiFi? If so, you can now leverage that WiFi to turn it into a social media sharing engine. Here’s how: with a new service from “Wavespot”.
The way that Wavesport works is that your patrons can “Like” your fans page to get Free WiFi access, and your business then appears in their “Like” status. It’s a win-win: your customers get free WiFi and you get free social media sharing.
Speaking of Twitter…among your new followers on Twitter you can find new customers and new opportunities – and you can partially automate this process so you’re not spending too much time on your mobile phone or sitting in front of your computer when you could instead be training people or working out. Here’s how.
Socialomate lets you send direct messages (DM) to your Twitter followers very easily and without spending hours to send messages one by one. Basically, what you do is create some messages and Socialomate will send your messages to all your new followers. It will even send multiple messages (up to 10) in a row – basically as an “autoresponder”. Check it out! I’m activating it on my Twitter account next week.
